Our Wild Adventure...
Our day started normal. We woke up, had breakfast, went to the gym, and then came home. While Sadie was eating her snack she said "I want to go to the zoo." So we dropped everything and hopped in the car and headed to the zoo(2 hrs away). The sky was dark and it was already noon but we went anyways.
When we got to the zoo it was 2 already and the zoo closed at 5. I ran with the kids as much as I could so that we could see everything. It was so fun! Tyson loved going fast. Despite my running we only made it to the middle of the zoo. That zoo is so big! I love it that the animals have room to roam around but it sure makes it hard to see everything!
Someone that was leaving gave us 10 tickets. We went and saw the dinosaur exhibit and it was awesome! The dinosaurs were huge and they moved and growled. When the T-Rex growled at us Sadie said "scuse you dinosaur" It was pretty cute. The dinosaurs were so realistic the triceratops was even munching on a bush! Two of the dinosaurs squirted us with water. To say that Tyson didn't like to be squirted is a major understatement. The boy went postal. Luckily there was a "dinosaur dig" set up where you could dig for real fossils and keep what you found. The kids loved it! We were there for quite a while just digging and playing around. That helped Tyson get over the fact that a dinosaur squirted him.
After the dinosaurs we used the rest of the tickets to ride the carousel. The kids were nervous but excited to be on the carousel. It was a lot of fun. I think what I loved the most about this trip was it was all about US. We didn't have anyone else with us. I didn't bring my camera or phone so I was completely focused on them. Also, Sadie called the shots. If she wanted to move we moved. If she wanted to play with rocks then that's what we did. We did have any kind of agenda at all and I loved it.
When we got back to our car I realized my phone was dead. I had half a battery left when I got to the zoo but I think the heat from the car sucked the life out of it. I was trapped. The zoo in Ashboro is pretty well hidden. At one point you have to drive down a dirt road to get to it so it's not like Utah where you have signs helping you. I had a hard time even finding a gas station. I finally did find a gas station so we went inside and found a map. When I got up to the counter I was 31 cents short! UGH! I was so mad and frustrated! The guy was really nice and said it was ok. I ran back to the car and got the 31 cents but just not having it almost threw me over the edge!
I started driving so I could find some kind of sign that would tell me where I was. The rain started before I could find anything. It was so bad that I couldn't even pull over anywhere because I couldn't see the side of the road. At this exact moment my Sadie decided to start screaming "I need the map! Daddy told me! I have to get him from Afghanistan! Daddy told me! I need the blue map!" OVER and OVER again. Then Ty started screaming because he got his sucker stuck in his hair. He kept trying to pull it out but that sucker was FUSED to his head. Poor baby. I was praying real hard at this point hoping for a little break in the weather so that I could get us home. Heavenly Father must really love me because just then the weather cleared. That's when I took the picture. The weather had cleared just enough for me to pull over and first get the sucker out of Ty's hair (took me a while because I had to soak it) second I ripped off part of the map to give to Sadie so that she wouldn't keep bugging me! Then I figured out where to go (We were an extra HOUR away from home). When we finally got on the right road we all laughed like crazy people. Tyson kept saying "Boo" and I would say "Aah" and he would laugh uncontrollably and the Sadie and I would laugh. It was great!
I love my family!
